My Secret to Surviving Stressful Relationships
Life as a hobbyist blogger: A much-needed escape to recharge!
I had an awful week. During winter break, my daughter excitedly told me that her father — my ex — said she should get a cat.
Me (shocked): But you don’t even like cats!
Her: Now, I do.
Me: That’s not the point. He should have discussed it with me first. You barely have time to eat, how will you care for a cat?
Her: I will
Me: You say that now. But kittens need a lot of care. Who will take care of it when you leave for college next year?
Her: Why do you always have to ruin everything? My dad says it's okay, so why not?
Me: Well, then tell him to get one and you can play with it when you visit.
She storms off to her room, slamming the door — just another in the routine series of slams, thanks to my ex’s meddling.
I needed a reset, so I went on a long drive along the country roads.
The sun was shining warming my bones after days of relentless cold. My destination was Lake Archer in Wrentham, about an hour from Boston. When I arrived, the lake was frozen — but still stunning in its own way.
