We all have mysteries we don’t share. To the souls who encounter their mysteries daily and fight along, this one is for you!

By Areeba Ashrafi

Mystery mystery on the wall.
I’m never asking you what you are,
I’ll never acknowledge your presence in the room,
As you give me goosebumps.

Mystery mystery on the wall.
When I lie on the floor
You crawl under the rug and poison my thoughts
I feel ashamed every morning
For giving in
For lying down
and letting you sink in.

Mystery mystery on the wall.
You look familiar
But I’m unclear
So I’ll keep my distance!
and let’s be fair
I’ll never befriend you
I don’t know why!

Let’s just say-
You’re a mystery of which I’m shy!

Mystery mystery on the wall.
I move around the room.
Day and night.
You’re always there.
Noting every detail, I despair,
I feel numb
But you won’t.

You’re so brutal
You’ll show me all,
The parts I like,
The parts I hate,
The scare, I tell myself, does not mutilate.

You’re so honest,
I can not stand!
So let’s just say
Mystery is all you are!

Mystery mystery on the wall
I’ll let you be.
But you do the same.
We shall live together
But here’s a deal-
I’ll never call you by your name —
Which is I KNOW-
is A Mirror!
