I wish I was never a “good girl”

I wish I was never a “good girl”

I wish I had braved the judgment that looms
Over those who refuse to be kept in a gilded cage
I wish I hadn’t said “yes” when I wanted to say “no”

Their rules were never for our good —
Only for those they sought to enslave
For a “good girl” can never be good to herself
Any act of self-care is deemed selfish

Cheers to those who never bent to the will
Of a world that offers only false grace
To the girl they keep in chains

I wish I was never so sweet, so still, so understanding

Take it from a former “too nice good girl” —
The worst kind
For endless pleasing won’t grant you dignity
It will only give them more reasons to take

Your worth is not in what you give away —
Not when it’s sacrificed from the very first day

You were born worthy! No need to forfeit your god-given fortune

So be whatever you want to be — unashamed and proud

Create anything you truly desire!

Just remind yourself
No good girls allowed
