A trabble is a 300-word story.

It was the best of snow; it was the worst of snow.

One

Outside Worcester, Massachusetts, I was cross-country skiing with Valerie D. Falling, inexperience, & brandy.

Two

At work. Hit between the eyes, plastic frames cut in two. Ouch.*

After two weeks of recovering, my housemates dropped me off at the eye clinic along with my car. The ophthalmologist peered into my eye and gave me the stamp of approval. The snow was falling fast and thick when I unearthed myself from his windowless office. Ten feet driving visibility.

I parked my car in the driveway during the blizzard of โ€™78. Swish, it was the sound of skiers in the street.

Three eight-hour days to dig out my car.

Three

Ellen and I went out in the pre-dawn light one morning after first snow, before the plows. We heard crunches of snow beneath our boots as we climbed over the bent back fence to the shortcut. It was a snow covered dirt path between houses tucked away from any street.

The fatesโ€™ delight graced us with a gossamer of the fairiesโ€™ light on that morning. I saw twinkling lights in the trees. Heard snow whiskingโ€ฆ
