Suffering Comes From Arguing Against Reality

It’s only when you accept reality that healing can begin.

Take a moment to receive that expression. When we talk about reality we are referring to the world or the state of things as they actually exist — not as we wish for them to be.

Reality is the family we were born into. Reality is the face we see in the mirror. Reality is the neighborhood we grew up in as a child. Reality is the people we surround ourselves with on a regular basis. Reality is the current state of the world. Reality just is.

And arguing against reality is about as beneficial as arguing against a chair.

You can argue with a chair all you want, a chair isn’t going to stop being a chair. You can argue with your family all you want, they aren’t going to stop being your family. You can argue with your own face until it turns blue, it isn’t going to stop being your face.

And the same is true with the neighborhood you grew up in, the people in your immediate proximity, the state of the world as you were born into it, and countless other things.

Arguing against reality doesn’t change reality.
