The Ache of Healing

healing is justified and so is the ache
while trying to pull the broken
pieces back together,
those rough, ragged edges

they rub raw, and sharp
with each step taken
ignoring the spasms
heart space throbbing

where all the beauty around
dulls to a faded blur
of watercolor images
undefined lines as despondency wins

until one of the colors
incites a feeling of aliveness
or awareness, where
breath can finally enter the lungs

upon waking up one morning
feeling somewhat lighter
in soul and sorrow
a tiny seed of hope

healing is painful
a metamorphosis of evolution
of the old dying into
a new incarnation of being

the ache dulls,
breeding fragile, tender skin
resilience and sensitivity
justified in healing’s embrace
