The Hold
Can you feel this magnetic family bubble that impregnates everyone inside it?
First you feel protected inside the family bubble, then the hold becomes too tight, restraining your development, finally you can feel the magnetic shadow as the hold becomes a stranglehold.
It is strange how life teaches us through events, reflected into thousands of mirror shards, where others are part of us. I had an epiphany recently when one of my sisters reacted angrily to information I shared that she thought should have been secret, but her reaction was broadcast to every sibling. Then two others reacted with anger against me.
Extraordinarily, I saw then two of the main parts of my family shadow: secrets and intimidation. It was a great gift as I was able to realize how both had directed my conduct, either incorporating them or reacting against them.
And now I can see vividly how this magnetic shadow bubble in my family has influenced my whole life and behavior.
I see now how I escaped my family as soon as I could, how I kept silent about my problems, refusing to be helped, how I chose my life in reaction to them, how I became an actor to shout what was secret, how I did not father a child being afraid to be like my father — although with my wife we later adopted a girl from Haiti.
