In silence there are hidden yet deep lessons. This is probably why we choose to fill it up with anything that is within our reach. Phones, earphones, playing music out loud… The list can go on. We are so afraid to let our thoughts take over. It’s as if we don’t want to listen or accept what we feel or what our heart is trying to communicate.

The result?

Out of the blue body aches, frequently falling ill and a complete burnout. We blame our fast-paced lives for feeling drained all the time. But that’s not always the case. When we constantly ignore the signs our body gives us, we set ourselves up for long term pain.

I take the metro to get to work. Once I get off at my station, there is a seven-minute walk. Usually, I would listen to a podcast or my Spotify playlist. But over the past few weeks I have been avoiding the constant need to keep my mind engaged during this walk.

Maybe I felt a need for a few moments of silence. Or maybe I just wanted to see if I could stick to this new challenge, I set for myself. Either way, there are a few lessons I learned from this small activity that are worth sharing.
