The Most Wonderful Gift Of All

To Be Alive

Live long enough
You will experience your share of pain and suffering
Will also view/read about tragedies impacting many others
In situations far worse than yours
Hopefully you allow their plight to touch you as well
Their connection to you being an inescapable truth

While acknowledging that humans are doing terrible things
To other humans-the environment-other life forms
That we also have to deal with diseases of all sorts
Face natural disasters that wreak havoc on people
Despite it all

I’m thrilled to be alive

On this planet which is hardly a speck
When measured against the uncountable number of galaxies and universes
That we bring consciousness to it all
We alone, as far as we know,
Are the sole self-aware living animal
Capable of not only attachment to a mate
But that mystery called Love
And faith that can transcend time
