Don’t Let Your Past Experiences Refrain You from Giving Yourself Another Chance

Look back and reflect on all those times when you have spoken rudely to yourself. The times when you told yourself you aren’t good enough, worthy enough or deserving enough. How you somehow felt that all the weaknesses in you cannot be removed, no matter how much you try. Or how, when you fail at a skill you’re trying to master, you convince yourself it isn’t meant for you. Don’t worry, we all have treated ourselves harshly. But that changes when life offers you some ‘aha’ moments like the one I am about to share.

I had a training session about grooming and business etiquette at work today. The trainer was making all 31 of us do a series of exercises to sharpen our confidence in communication, tone of voice and the power of rephrasing words. During this activity, she asked us a thought-provoking question. She said, ‘identify one thing that you cannot do’. We all thought about it for a moment, and everyone had something on their mind. She then asked one of my colleagues to share what they thought they cannot do. The colleague replied, ‘I cannot control my emotions’.
