It all starts with an imminent storm, within and without
The sky over Carcavelos seemed to churn with complexities. Clouds loomed over me in shades of steel and ash, reflecting a storm I couldn’t yet name — not just in the air, but within me.
It wasn’t the kind of storm that rattles windows and bends trees, but the kind that brews quietly inside you until you can’t tell where the sky ends and your emotions begin.
I trudged my boots over the wet sand and pushed my body to move forward. “A walk on the beach will be good for me”, I told myself.
The truth is, these past few months have been heavy. Collectively and individually, because it’s becoming more difficult to separate the two. The absurdity of the world is becoming too much for the mind to bear, and the violence too obscene for the heart to carry.
There is a strong pull for growth in the air. Like a fed-up kid standing behind you while you hesitate on the edge of the swimming pool diving board. That ‘kid’, or some larger force, is about to push us over the edge.
Something is pushing us to face the fear of our own waters. To finally learn how to swim.
