The Subtle Envy: How I Learned to Handle it with Patience and Wit — AI Image by Author (Bing).

Throughout the years, someone in my life has appeared to harbour a certain level of envy toward me. This person is someone I’ve known for a very long time, with our relationship spanning decades. Initially, I felt inclined to react with anger and aggression towards their sarcastic comments about my achievements, both big and small.

But then I realized this was not the right way to preserve our bond.

So I decided to take inspiration from the art of boxing. Like a tactical, attentive, patient boxer, I began adopting a more subtle and indirect strategy to “strike” at his envy. Instead of confronting it head-on with heated tones, I opted for a series of well-aimed but non-violent “jabs.”

Humorous

Essentially, every time he launched one of his envious barbs, I would respond with a smile and a witty remark, using general similes to convey that I caught his sarcasm without directly attacking him. It was a way of saying, “I see what you’re doing, but you don’t faze me.”
