There’s Power In Realizing What Makes Us Weak
But not acknowledging the true culprit keeps us at it’s mercy
There are many articles on Medium these days by those who have quit drinking. There’s even an entire publication dedicated to it. I’ve read some of the articles. Many of the writers were drinking daily and completely out of control.
Now they’ve gotten a grip on themselves and have struggled to get sober. And that’s wonderful. Bravo! But rather than acknowledge their weakness, they’ve decided to blame alcohol instead and label it evil. As far as they’re concerned, we’re all doomed if we drink socially. Or even only on occasion.
Well, folks. I’ve got news for you.
I like to drink.
I like having a cocktail while out with friends. I enjoy sharing a drink at home with my husband. And a chilled glass of white zinfandel while working on a jigsaw puzzle in the evening or lolling about on the patio decompressing from the day is quite lovely.
But there are some former drinkers who want to bring back prohibition and ban booze altogether.
Why? Is it because people drink and sometimes act foolish? Or is it their own demons they fear, and the only way to guarantee sobriety is to remove the temptation altogether? From everywhere.
