I recently changed jobs which means I’ve been learning a lot in a short amount of time, which got me reflecting on learning and growth mindset in general. One evening I thought this:

You only become the master when you realise that you’ll always be the student.

There are generally three stages to learning something, but most people get stuck in stage two which is why they never fully achieve the growth mindset that leads to their full potential.

Today we’re going to shed light on all three stages, so we never fall into that trap.

Three stages of learning

These are three stages we go through when learning something:

1. Knowing you know nothing and want to learn

2. Knowing you know something and feel like there’s more you do know than don’t

3. Realising there’s a lot more that you don’t know than do, and this will always be the case

Ideally stage three is the best place to be because it avoids complacency and keeps your mind open to more learning.
