Waiting Together is a Love Language
Waiting together creates shared experiences
Much of life is spent waiting — in the supermarket queue, at the doctor’s, in traffic, waiting for an important message, waiting for food to arrive. Life is in these in-between moments that we often miss or take for granted, but they’re valuable opportunities to have meaningful exchanges with our loved ones.
Yesterday, my partner had a parcel to send to Spain. We went to the parking lot where the delivery van was stationed. While the driver was dispatching and picking up parcels, we spent the downtime listening to music, analyzing lyrics, and people-watching. It was a surprisingly enjoyable experience!
Knowing that your partner is willing to wait for you and with you, even in the most mundane and inconvenient situations, can make you feel loved and reassured. The two of you are free from distractions, so the undivided attention gives rise to meaningful moments.
I’ve come to understand that love is not always about big adventures and new experiences. Sometimes it’s about the slow, seemingly boring moments of waiting. The intimacy of finding something to keep you entertained — slow dancing in the kitchen or talking a little longer because the train is late.
Waiting is a shared activity in itself, one that deepens the bond we share with those we love.
What small moments of waiting have you cherished?
