What if Just One Small Step Could Change Your Life Forever?
Big dreams and aspirations aren’t achieved overnight, but over time
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by aspirations, big dreams or goals? I believe we all do.
Feeling dazzled with big dreams is like climbing a mountain without a clear roadmap.
I’m currently developing an entertainment platform—an outlet for musical artists where music can be uploaded and promoted.
My aspiration for the platform is so big that I thought I could finish the project in a short time. Eventually, I began to feel bored with the project especially when a simple syntax error keeps me up late at night trying to debug the error and still not succeeding.
I got to a phase where I could even spend days without touching the project. At this point, the picture became so big and made me feel like I could never complete the project.
Just then, fear and discouragement began to set in! All of a sudden, I started procrastinating—the bigger problem, innit? Became confused and don’t know where to start from.
But guess what? I challenged myself regardless of the fact that I am the only one in the team and because I knew that I needed to build the app.
So I braced up.
Then I began to split my project into small, manageable, and achievable tasks.
Before I realized, I’m already covering a large portion of the project. This time I felt fulfilled. I felt like I’ve already completed the building of the app.
Story cut short, if you really want to succeed in whatever you’re doing, try to break long-term goals into small, manageable and achievable tasks.
Why Long-Term Goals Often Feel Overwhelming
Psychologically, the fear of failing or apprehension of the unknown is one of those things that stops us from moving further with what we want to accomplish.
One problem that makes long-term goals feel overwhelming is the desire or strong urge for instant gratification or results—such an illusion. We’ve all struggled with this illusion at some point.
