How does it even happen? You don’t ask for it, but suddenly, someone drops a piece of information on you. And not just any information but the kind that can be damning or devastating to someone else.

What do you do?

I am concealing a nasty secret. I won’t get into the who and what of it all. But revealing it would stir up tremendous family turmoil. It would blow a hole straight through the very foundation of what I recently learned is a sham, presented for years by some people very close to me.

They don’t know that I’ve not only become privy to their ugly truth, but I know more of that truth than even they do.

Being a harborer of secrets is no fun. There’s a responsibility that goes along with knowing more about a situation than those directly involved might know. Even with good intentions, should you tell them? After all, the truth shall set you free. Or do you keep it tucked away, remain silent, and hope for the best?

Past secrets

I remember secrets from years ago, two in particular. Both situations were painful and once revealed, the secrets caused a lot of embarrassment and hurt…
