When Working On Yourself Makes Things Worse
It’s actually a positive sign
Anyone who has done significant work on themselves is familiar with the pattern. You work on some internal blocks, mindsets, and attitudes. You start to see some results. And then everything in your life blows up, and you’re more miserable than when you started.
That’s actually a good thing. Even if it doesn’t feel like it while you’re going through it.
Here’s two powerful tips for getting through the bad times and back to improvement more quickly.
Use the pain to power the brain
When we start working on ourselves, we start with the things we’re aware of. What is obviously wrong in our life? It’s all already in our conscious minds and reflected in our external reality. That’s when we see rapid progress.
The next batch of things we start working on are the things that have been buried for a long time. The things that started in our childhood, that we couldn’t deal with (or couldn’t deal with well) at the time.
As we bring these issues into our awareness, they begin to be reflected in our external reality more than they were before. If we try to deal with them the way we dealt with them as a child, we’ll only reinforce our negative programming.
