Whispers Among the Tombstones

there’s a poem
waiting
among the tombstones

it is a quiet poem
barely a whisper

the crows caw
chasing away the osprey
annoying it to no end

the predator rested on a branch
a moment
perhaps wanting to listen
to the murmur
rising from the clay

but crows
offer no respite
for invaders
of their tombstone territory

golfers play 50 yards away
unmindful
of names and dates
all nothing more than
hazards in the rough
where they pray
no ball lands this way

what will they want
I wonder
when even the best
will slice a ball this way…
