Once people dared to dream
Of a time of peace and glory
As foretold by the prophets of many faiths
Symbolized by lions laying down with sheep

Here we find ourselves today
When many neighbors don’t talk to one another
Even within families
Barriers often exist consisting of
Political-religious-value differences-jealousy-past memories
Resulting in members shut off from one another
Communication foreclosed

Throughout the world
Race-gender identity-wealth-physical appearance
Poverty-nationalism-tribalism-greed
At times it seems there are as many sources of animosity
As there are grains of sand in the desert
A Tower of Babel multiplied

The cruel irony of this state of affairs
This is occurring when humankind
Have created astonishing means to communicate
Modes of being connected to one another
Across the globe
In an instance
By voice and image
Can even travel by air within twenty-four hours
From one place to any other point on the…
