You Always Have a Choice
Even if it’s a choice of attitude
A bunch of balloons blew across the pond and lodged in the tree outside my cabin window.
I have a choice to make.
Do I see the balloons as foreign objects littering the woods? Do I choose to feel annoyed that someone let their balloons fly away, and now there is no easy way for me to get them out of the tree?
OR
Do I take a deep breath and enjoy their burst of color on the bleak January landscape? A vivid spot in the virtually snowless and leafless wood.
I envision the excitement the person who bought them felt when the balloons were filled for a special occasion. Perhaps they were bought in anticipation of their child’s first birthday party or to mark a parent’s golden anniversary.
I can choose to see them as litter and wonder how I will ever get them out of the tree. OR, I can feel honored that the balloons, bought in anticipation of celebrating a special life event, chose to land in the tree, bringing a burst of color into my world.
