You Are Still In There
There is still time to be set free
You’re at the bottom and looking for a way out
What you think of as “life”
is only a part you play, someone else’s delusion
a role someone has put you in without your permission
Deep down, you are still in there
you’re just in a cage, buried and dormant
Layers of failed expectations, guilt and regret
mostly for ideals you don’t even support
and for beliefs you never really subscribed to
This is not actually you, but you are still in there
Layers of masks, filters, and rehearsed lines
you can play the part so well
as long as who you are is muzzled and still
And you play the role so long and convincingly
that the cage sometimes
becomes dark and forgotten, silent
but you are still in there
You are your own hero
you just need a guide to show you the way
to teach you to peel back layers
to reclaim your own sense of truth
to teach you to breathe
to take your hand and enter the dark forest
and lead you to the cage
