Chasing validation

I live in one of the most overpriced cities in the world.

The average rent is an atrocious $3,500 and houses in move-in-ready condition start around $800,000 (a conservative estimate). Home not only to some of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions, Boston also boasts a mix of thriving industries like tech, healthcare, finance, and biotech.

No wonder it's a hot ticket among those seeking career and academic growth.

Sometimes it feels like overkill — whose kids go to Ivy League schools, who have vacation homes in Martha’s Vineyard or Cape Cod for the summer and winter getaways in New Hampshire or Vermont.

It’s like the who’s who of noncelebrities with the same kind of vibe.

Perhaps the constant repetition of seeing the same crowd year after year — those who love to speak the loudest or brag the hardest makes it so off-putting. There’s really something to be said about humility or a distinct lack of it nowadays.

Why have we become a world where the universities we attend, the cars we drive, the connections we make, the likes we get on Instagram, and the money we make…
