Playing world for good

TED (Technology Entertainment Design) with its tagline “Ideas worth Spreading” is a collection of one of the greatest collection of talks of highly passionate and inspiring people from all walks of life. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

I absolutely in love with these talks as unlike the current media which bring only news of corruption etc, TED talks take me to an alternative world with talks about exciting projects, inventions, discoveries and ideas taking shape all around the world.

And today had an opportunity to witness such an event held in one of the most picturesque city of Belgium, Brugge. Tedx Uhowest was based on exciting and relatively new theme of “Playing the World for good”-

TED is about spreading ideas worth spreading. But is this enough? Don’t we have to go a step further and use these good ideas to make the world a better place. Perhaps we should, but change is hard. Making choices is hard. To enable this we need to make making the right choices fun again. That’s what playing the world for good is all about.

Games earlier were thought to be a bad influence due to its addictive and aggressive nature. But then it was realized that instead of these being a negative point can be highly helpful in some areas such as increasing engagement among employees, making children do tasks that otherwise they wouldn't prefer etc.

They had long list of speakers lined up for the day. All ready to share their ideas on the very innovative theme.

I think this work and play mixture is what turns many designers into workaholic(At-least for others). But they never know that designers are just having fun and at the same time doing some serious research.

If you still want to know more about TED, you should read this article by Joshua Topolsky or just pay their site or their YouTube channel a visit.
