One of Facebook’s stated long-term ambitions is to “connect the world” through its internet.org program, that is to make sure everybody on the planet has access to the internet. CEO Mark Zuckerberg talks about it often and believes that the ability of a person to get online is “a right, not a privilege.”

Two thirds of the world’s population are still not online, however, but internet.org is helping to change this. The plan is to make basic internet services affordable so that everybody can join the “knowledge economy.”
