Celebrations at Workplace

Building a community via Festivals

--

What’s one of the joys of being an Indian?- You get Festivals and Holidays all year Round!

Especially the closing quarter of a calendar as it marks the most busiest and engaging time of the year with so many festivals lined up. It seems as if the whole world is in a celebration mood

These celebrations serve as a good opportunity for all to come together, experience different cultures, and eat a bunch of different cuisines of course. And this is true not just with family and friends but within the workplace as well.

Hosting events and making a day out of a festival in the office might seem only for merriment but it serves a very important purpose as well — Building a community

Being a part of an organization that makes it a point to celebrate as many occasions as possible and with the same gusto, I have observed a few aspects where this helps the employee culture overall.

1. Break from the monotonous Tap-Tap

Celebrations at a workspace are the best way to blow off steam and are a fantastic break from the monotony of daily work routines. Employees can have a chill time, feel relaxed, and return to work with a fresh mind

2. Meeting everyone’s ‘Fun’ side

Celebrations serve as a stress reliever in this complicated environment where work has become overly mechanical.

Because of these events’ informal environment, a lot of hidden talents are revealed while conducting activities and games. Some might turn out as movie nerds, gifted musicians, great dancers, or entertaining hosts. Even behavioral traits like taking initiative or communication, which might not usually be noticed at work, may shine through

3. Networking beyond the team

There is a reason why icebreaker games are so popular amongst event management people. Most of the time, we are confined to our deadlines and hence immediate team members.

Fun games help employees socialize without having to feel awkward. This, in turn, helps in better connections, building up rapport, and all in all a more extensive engagement among the employees.

Teams of different departments who in general, do not have the opportunity to interact, now have the event as a connecting link to break the ice & socialize.

4. Easing in the workplace’s environment

Freshers and new hires have a strong desire to relate or fit in. These gatherings are the ideal way to accomplish it. Employees have the opportunity to bond with others with similar interests

All of these combined together help in building a strong office culture that gives a sense of belongingness and a feeling of community.

Happy Festivities, folks!
