Artist designed flags at Rockefeller Center

This week marks the debut of “The Rockefeller Center Flag Project,” a powerful new installation that encircles the legendary rink, celebrating the love, unity, diversity and resiliency of New York.

Chosen from over one thousand submissions from around the world, these 193 flags include original designs from some of our favorite artists and notable New Yorkers, including Jeff Koons, Marina Abramović, Christian Siriano, Sarah Sze, Steve Powers, KAWS, Laurie Anderson, Hank Willis Thomas, Carmen Herrera, Jenny Holzer, Shantell Martin, Sanford Biggers, and Faith Ringgold.

We here at Known are beyond proud to have collaborated with our incredible clients at Rockefeller Center, developing and amplifying a dynamic new campaign of branding, signage, and social assets to bring this activation to life.

“There are as many ways to celebrate the strength, vibrancy and spirit of New York as there are people in our City. We are thrilled that so many emerging and acclaimed artists are taking part in The Flag Project and we are excited to share all the original works in one place, surrounding the beloved skating rink at Rockefeller Center”

Rob Speyer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tishman Speyer.

Here are some of our personal favorites:

Left to Right, Top to Bottom: Shantell Martin, Iori Hara, Sean Bonilla, Jose Francisco Alfonso, Fabio Gherardi, Niege Borges, Jeff Koons, John Carlson

The Rockefeller Center Flag Project has generated an incredible response — from HypeBeast to The New York Post to Governor Cuomo’s Daily Email. Come see for yourself at Rockefeller Center from August 1–16. Download the map to explore the full layout of designs.
