Nina Diaz — Reloaded
If there was a silver lining to the world turning upside down in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was that Nina Diaz got her mojo back.
“I love to sing and perform and as I’m editing videos for things, I’m actually liking myself,” she said. “I had a moment where I looked at myself and I’m like, ‘I’m cool.’ (Laughs) That’s the first time I ever said that to myself in all my years of being in Girl in a Coma, all the videos I’ve done, everything. This was the first time where I looked at myself and I appreciated myself.”
We’re sorry Ms. Diaz is late to the party when it comes to seeing herself as cool, because that’s the way her loyal fanbase has seen her ever since she was leading Girl in a Coma as a teenager back in her home state of Texas. But after the indie rock trio broke up and she didn’t take over the world with her excellent solo debut, The Beat Is Dead, in 2016, she was at a crossroads and in need of something to recharge her batteries.
That something was Los Angeles, where she moved in September of 2018, with her husband (and drummer) Jorge Gonzalez following soon after. It was the answer for a little while, but not the complete answer she was looking for.
