Unlike many of his peers, who have emerged from the music business wars a lot worse for wear, Tom Keifer remains one of the most positive figures around, unwilling to let that keep him from his path of writing and performing his music for the fans who want to hear it.

“This business is just a sector of life,” he said. “And life is something that deals you good and bad every day. Whether you’re in the music business or you’re a doctor or an athlete or schoolteacher, you wake up every day and life is gonna deal you positive things and it’s going to deal you negative things, and it’s a choice what you focus on. And it’s a choice what you choose to be grateful for.”

This attitude made the success of Keifer’s first solo release, The Way Life Goes, hard rock’s feel good story of 2013, and for good reason. First, it was a helluva album. But more importantly, life after the release of his last album with Cinderella, Still Climbing, in 1994, saw him continuing to deal with voice issues that began after the album Heartbreak Station came out in 1990, and it wasn’t easy on a man who made his living with his vocal cords.

Cinderella would reunite and tour, but as far as new material was concerned, there was nothing. At least nothing the public was privy too. But behind closed doors, Keifer and his wife Savannah were working on what would…
