In the shadow of the (Covid-19) pandemic, everything around us has become largely dependent on the use of technology and the Internet, which is built and maintained by coding and programming work. Now, more than ever, the need to think deeply about teaching and educating individuals on computer science, has become vital. private courses, workshops, bootcamps, lessons, internships, mentorships, all are adding to the availability of advancements in this field. In the 21st century, we are living in a digital, renewed, and changing world. Digital development holds a major role in businesses, commerce, shopping, health, education, governance, and enforcing control in multiple countries.

Millions of people are coming to educational centers and institutes to learn the art and the science of programming. For both refugees and host citizens, the importance of coding education and digital literacy does not differ. Nevertheless, refugees are finding strength in building programming skills and knowledge. It’s a safe and hopeful ground for them, to build a better future and to develop their countries. Migrants and refugees, invest in themselves, to create and prepare generations that are capable of building their communities.

I’m an IT graduate, as is the case for many university graduates, I was unable to obtain sufficient information and learn all programming languages while studying. I had to learn programming by relying on my efforts through the Internet and participating in training courses. I fell in love with app development, and I made my dream to become a successful app developer.

Considering that I am a migrant in Turkey, I have faced many obstacles in finding programming work opportunities whether it be in government institutions, large companies, or SME’s. There are many barriers between me and achieving my goals. The most important one being, the language barrier. It denies networking with others, causes legal troubles, and limits education opportunities. which forced me away from my primary dream.

I’ve moved between working in Graphic Design, Digital Marketing, Website Developing, and Designing until I stumbled upon Kodluyourz’s Bootcamp. Through this bootcamp, I took a deeper insight into multiple programming languages and discovered strategic methods and techniques that helped me restore, and develop the practical skills to enter the Labor market in Turkey.

“Everybody should learn to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.”

- Steve Jobs- 1995

Kodluyoruz, acknowledges the right for all community members to dream big, earn a decent living, and understand the world around them better. That’s why the bootcamps they are offering are absolutely valuable. Participants will get to know all kinds of programming languages or at least a large part of them, thus they can work in more than one area. Bootcamp alumni can catch up with the rapid tech development and make a profit from their newly earned skills.

Programming languages do not discriminate, it’s an open arena for everyone to be creative, earn a living, and socialize with like-minded people. it’s no longer limited to the geeks of the world, everyone can be a geek now. First, name your goal. Second, pick up the tools you need. Third, shoot your shot. For junior programmers who want to enter the market, market research is very important. The expected wage, work hours and work conditions will differ heavily based on what you specialize in.

If you desire to work in large companies or government institutions, programming languages such as Java and C# are the most used programming languages currently. If you desire to work in a start-up company, programming languages such as PHP and Python are the most popular programming languages currently used. These are just simple examples of what you would be expected to know.

A beginner will at least need 3 months of training followed by at least 2 or 3 months of practical project-based experience, so they could utilize all the basics they learned. This duration can’t be valued with a fixed budget because of how critical it’s for a programmer’s growth.

Kodluyoruz is working effectively with their partners’ Western Union towards offering this invaluable opportunity completely for free. And I think that the next step for them would be to provide these opportunities in multiple languages as well as to Turkish. And to assign alumni to small projects regularly to support their growth even further.

I would recommend keeping your digital information constantly updated and keeping on trying new technologies. It’s a continuous learning journey that requires barrierless access to the latest technologies used. To stay in pace with the requirements of the labor market and to determine the target group for your services.

Thank you to everyone from Kodluyoruz and Western Union for opening the path for me and many others to strive up above our expectations!
