Recently, I edited a story by Belinda Adom Takyi featuring a woman with an alabaster jar.

In her story, Belinda identified the woman as Mary Magdalene, and this immediately raised a question in my mind.

Was this woman Mary Magdalene?

There’s no indication in the account of this story in either Matthew 26:6–13 or Mark 14:3–9 that she is. The woman in both of these passages is unnamed.

Are these passages talking about the same woman — and the same incident?
