A Smile to Cheer

She did not ask too much of you,
She did not ask at all,
There in her corner, she will stay,
You do not have to care.

She will not shout, she will not cry,
Your living can go on.
Enjoy your life, and do not look,
Don’t let it trouble you.

Someone else might look her way,
Someone else might care,
But do not let it bother you,
There’s many just like her.

But if you stopped just for a while,
And looked into her face,
You’ll see her eyes are searching for,
A little bit of grace.

And when you stop to hold her hand,
You’ll find she has a smile,
That lights the darkest corners of,
Your heart and makes you glad.

For she can give much more to you,
Than you can give to her,
The little child left all alone,
No one that seemed to care,
Is waiting for your gentle touch,
To bless you with her smile.
