Planning my way into newness

Four years ago, I took early retirement. COVID-19 was still causing havoc, and I’d lost some of the passion for the work I have always enjoyed — I blame “the Zoom” as I affectionately call it. My husband had his second cancer (a third would be diagnosed four months later, showing us both that my retirement decision had been the right one).

Electronic calendars and paper planners were natural devices for my organized self. Besides, I’m only productive when I write things down. Know what I mean? So, I began a new planner system on October 1, 2020, the first day of retired life.

Most planners, the fancy ones especially, have an entry system that helps the user establish annual goals in all areas of his/her life. There’s a vision board to design, habits to commit to… you can see that the feel is very New Year’s Resolution.

Even though I could have adjusted my planner system to January, I’ve been enjoying the asymmetry of my planner life. When people are choosing their Word of the Year or Verse of the Year, I’m already three months in. I’m a bit competitive, but not when it comes to my planning.
