The idea of sin is not popular or much tolerated today. Labeling something as a sin, or someone as a sinner, is often considered hate speech. That’s why it’s important to understand its meaning.

One aspect of sin is missing the mark of God’s standards set for humanity. — Aaron Armstrong, The Gospel Project

In the beginning, God created us in His image. That means we were like Him, perfect and sinless. But sin entered the picture when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sin tainted us.

That sin got passed down to every human generation thereafter.

In a way, we can view original sin as a flaw in our genetic code. We carry the burden of sin with us wherever we go.

But God also created a way for our sins to be dealt with forever (read John 3:16).
