“Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.” (Psalm 104:1, KJV).

Learning to worship God

Of late, our church started spending time worshiping the Lord differently than previously. When we first arrived, we prayed over a list of prayer requests for everyone, which my husband calls our “wish list.”

Now, let me hasten to assure you there is nothing wrong with a prayer list. We need to know how people are hurting and how to pray for them. However, when that becomes our only goal in life, we need to step back to ascertain what works best in prayer.

Worship and adoration toward God seem lacking in most places we go. In what is commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer (the model prayer), Jesus tells his disciples how to pray.

Interestingly enough, He doesn’t start out with a comment, “Okay, so first you get a prayer list and pray over each thing.”

Instead, He tells us that we should look to the Father in heaven and give Him adoration and praise.
