Christmas Is Over, and They Are Playing With The Box

Why did I spend all that money?

The top toys bought for Christmas 2022, according to USA Today, were as follows:

  • Melissa & Doug PAW Patrol Activity Center
  • Play-Doh Kitchen Creations Ultimate Ice Cream Truck Toy Playset
  • Flybar FunPark Racer Bumper Car
  • CoComelon Boo-Boo JJ Delux Doll
  • Bluey Ultimate Lights & Sounds Playhouse
  • LeapFrog Clean Sweep Learning Caddy
  • Little Live Pets Mama Surprise

Christmas is officially over, and you may have bought one of these toys for your kids. My children are all grown, so I only purchased a few stocking stuffer toys for the grandkids.

I do, however, remember when my children were small. I would find my children playing in cardboard boxes or using sheets for forts, sticks for swords, piles of leaves for hiding places, boards for ramps, and old books for towers. The Christmas toys were a novelty for a few weeks, but as parts got lost, all the luster became lackluster.

I began to wonder, “Why did I waste my money?” But I didn’t. I showed love by giving them something that they requested.

So don’t feel bad when your children are playing with paper airplanes instead of the expensive Christmas toy. Give God the glory and let Him pat you on the back.

Hear Him say, “Well done my faithful servant!”

Christmas may be over, but Christ is not. He is love, and He wants us to show love. We give our children gifts not because they are good or bad. We give because we love them, just like God gives us the gift of undeserving grace. Giving is Christ-like love in action.
