Christ’s Crucifixion Was Not Murder

How was such a brutal death not murder?

There is no question that the death of Jesus Christ was a horrific event of torture, pain, and inhumane cruelty beyond comprehension. Even as portrayed in cinematic scenes of modern times, the abomination and disregard for humanity cannot begin to illustrate what He endured.

So, how can I say that Jesus Christ was not murdered? He was killed. He was accused of crimes that He did not commit. He was found guilty in a mock trial when witnesses slandered Him and dragged him to a place where common criminals would hang, sometimes for days, just waiting to do just one thing: die.

To begin, we must examine the definition of the word “murder.”

Merriam Webster defines murder as: “to kill (a person) unlawfully and unjustifiably with premeditated malice.”

At first, the death of Jesus may seem to fit this definition. After all, the Bible even tells us that the authorities had plans to arrest and kill Him.

“Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.”…
