Creating Thanksgiving Amid Christmas Cheer
Avoiding the pre-Christmas rush
This week’s Hobby Lobby ad declares, “All Fall 90% Off.” It’s still November, and Thanksgiving day is as late as it can be. Realizing all that, the ad recognizes that the time for falling leaves, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and high school football are done. Get with the Christmas season.
The questions that come to mind: Do we need a special season to thank God for His provisions? Do we blindly rush into a season of giving and receiving? Do we recognize the blessings God gives every day, or do we need a special season to give thanks?
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:3–5, NIV)
