Cut Free Lies and Be Hooked by His Ultimate Truth

Battle of the anglers

If you have been a Christian long, you know there are two Master Anglers out there. The enemy, who uses lies to bait you and hooks you deep with guilt and shame, and the Lord, who attracts you with His truth and hooks you on His word.

But like all fish, sometimes regardless of how attractive the offer, we don’t bite. Master Anglers are patient and stay the course. When the moment comes, be clear on whether you’re hooked on something good or whether something bad has hooked you.

Cut free lies

Lie 1 — no time.

You, me, and every other human living today have been given the same amount of time each day, each week, month, and year. Yet, time is not our challenge.

Lie 2 — no money.

We all come from different economic levels. Whether we have a dollar or a million, it’s likely not enough. Yet, this is not our challenge.

Lie 3 — no control.

Anger, frustrations, and irritations fester followed quickly by anxiety, fear, and worry. Yet, this is not our challenge.

We’ve been hooked by the guilt and shame of inadequacy, manipulating our ability to live an abundant life: that’s our challenge.

“The thief (Satan) comes only (note the only) to steal and kill and destroy. I (Jesus) came that they (you and I, all of humanity) have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, NASB — words in the bracket by author)

The angler of lies is baiting you. His lies hook you with temptations and reel you into a life that limits your ability to pursue your potential and help others do the same. He will steal your joy, kill your hope, and destroy your faith if you are caught by him.

You will need to fight, change directions, and expend great sums of energy. Keep fighting the angler of lies.

Be hooked by ultimate truth

Truth 1 — my time is His time.

  • Invite God into every area of your life to replace the lie that you have no time, with the truth that God desires to manage your schedule, help you prioritize, and give you an abundant life. This is where you will find the path He paves for you.

Truth 2 — my money is His money.

  • Invite God into your checkbook and replace the lie that you have no money, with the truth that God desires to supply every need financially, today, and every day. This is where you find contentment.

Truth 3 — surrendering control leads to contentment.

Invite God into your mind to replace the lie that you have no control, with the truth that God has given you a spirit of power, love, and sound mind to control your response with:

“Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22–24, NASB).

This is where you find peace. If you get caught by the angler of lies, the angler of truth will pluck you free, relax, and allow Him to release you from what holds you captive.

“Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.” (Psalm 25: 15, ESV).

The day I cut free lies and got hooked by truth was when I stopped telling God what was in my heart and started asking Him what’s in His for me. I pray you do the same.
