Jesus was not an only child.

It can be easy, when skimming the Bible, to assume that Jesus was an only child.

We read that He was born of a virgin. The Bible tells us that Joseph was warned to flee to Egypt with his family for safety when Jesus was only a baby.

We read of Him being separated from His parents while travelling at the age of only twelve years old.

In none of these cases do we hear anything about brothers or sisters. It may even be that none of Jesus’ siblings were even born at this time, but that is pure speculation and is irrelevant anyway.

Joseph was a carpenter by vocation. Mary would have cared for the home and children, possibly also handling tasks such as gardening or other household chores. She would have gone to the market, run errands, and likely been seen in town, just like any other young, married woman…
