Does the Resurrection of Jesus Offer You Hope?

No matter what you’ve done, what you believe makes all the difference between hope and despair

Jesus Came to Earth to Serve, to Die, and to Save

They expected a conquering king.

Judas the Betrayer

The Last Week of Jesus’ Life

There was already greed in the heart of Judas, and added to that was his disappointment that Jesus’ plans were different than he had hoped.

Jesus Was Not Surprised by Judas’ Betrayal

This is the last time the men will spend together before Jesus dies.

We will never know his true motivation

Peter’s Offense Was Different

He wasn’t afraid to tell Jesus how he felt but yielded to Jesus’ authority.

This lets Peter know that Jesus is in his corner. That even though Jesus knows Peter will fail him, it will be temporary.

Nevertheless, Peter had heard all Jesus said. He also knew Jesus had prayed for him.

Peter denies Jesus

Still, Peter knew Jesus had prayed for him and still loved him.

The Cross

The Resurrection

I find it interesting that the angels especially wanted Peter to know Jesus had risen and was alive.

Peter Goes Fishing

Peter was so excited to see Jesus he jumped into the water and swam to shore as the others returned in the boat.

Before that happened, Peter shared with the world what the resurrection had meant to him.

Our Hope is Based on the Resurrection

According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now . . . you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith — more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire — may be found to result in praise and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Peter had denied Christ three times.

Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.

The promised Holy Spirit came to continue to teach and empower him.

What Was the Difference Between Judas and Peter?

Judas

It appears Judas wanted to use Jesus to advance his own position rather than letting Jesus use him to help serve others.

His unbelief kept him from receiving all Jesus died to give him.

Peter

There was still hope. The Resurrection fulfilled it. It brought a new day and a new life.

. . . if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (ESV)
