You Used To Dream
Long before you ever learned to read, write, do tricks on the monkey bars, or spilled glue on the carpet, you dreamed. Your parents encouraged it. They told you to play. They told you to imagine. They asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up, and you boldly answered. You dared to open up, because you hadn’t yet learned that showing your aspirations to others was dangerous.
Your capacity to dream didn’t go away overnight, though.
No, it was winnowed away.
In first grade, you drempt about being a unicorn wrangler or astronaut. By middle school, you become a slave to social approval. You didn’t dream as big; you didn’t dream about the impractical, and you definitely didn’t share your dreams. High school was more of the same, further entrenching the need to be cool over the wonderful call to adventure God has for your life.
College was the bright spot where you dared to dream again.
