Every Breath You Take, God Is Watching You
But not in a creepy way
“Every Breath You Take” is a timeless and beloved song by many that was released in 1983.
It is a dark and edgy song about an obsessive, jilted lover who seems to be stalking her. When you listen closely to the lyrics, it can be downright creepy.
But what if it wasn’t a jilted lover, but a good and Sovereign God was watching every breath you take and every move you make? Now, that would be a great song.
Truth be told, God did write that song long before 1983.
Psalm 121 shares this good news. God watches over us when we leave the house and return home. He explains that nothing can happen to His children without His knowledge and approval. He has never slept on the job and is the perfect bodyguard.
However, this does not mean bad things will not happen to His children. Jesus Christ Himself reminded us that we will have trials and difficulties in this world.
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (John 16:33, NLT)
So, if God reminds His children that they will have trials, how can the Psalmist tell us that “The LORD keeps you from all…
