Faith and Fear

Faith and fear are two sides of the same coin. But we don’t have to flip this coin each day, hoping it lands in our favor. With this coin, we get to choose which side is up — always.

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. (Hebrews 11:1–3 NLT)

Faith is a choice to believe in God and his power and sovereignty. Fear comes from a lack of understanding and knowledge about God. Choosing faith over fear diminishes the power that the unknown has over you. Choosing faith stops the maddening cycle of ‘what ifs’ that often go through our minds.

By faith we believe, and by faith we are compelled to action just like so many people whose stories are revealed in the Bible. The eleventh chapter of Hebrews is often called the Hall of Faith because it reminds us of the actions of our faith heroes — Enoch, Noah, Sara, Isaac, Rahab…just to name a few.
