Depression
It Feels Like God Is Unfair, Unconcerned, and Unwilling to Help Me Get Through My Darkness and Depression
I know that is not the truth, but that is how I feel
Most stories that we read have a beginning, a climax, and a resolution. We are accustomed to stories with a crisis, and then by the end of the story, things have been resolved, and everybody lives happily-ever-after.
We like stories like that, probably because we are always looking for our fairy-tale ending.
Some stories do not end that way, though, and they are not that pleasant to read or watch — our minds like resolution. We do not mind climax, as long as there is deliverance at the end.
However, sometimes a story without a resolution may tell a better story than if it had one. Heman (someone you probably have never heard of before) wrote a story for us, and God chose to inspire it and record it in Psalm 88. Let me give you a small taste of what he felt:
“O LORD, I cry out to you. I will keep on pleading day by day. O LORD, why do you reject me? Why do you turn your face from me?” (Psalm 88:13-14 NLT)
“You have taken away my companions and loved ones. Darkness is my closest friend.” (Psalm 88:18, NLT)
