How This Writer Believes That Writing is Better Than Speaking
Writer Spotlight: An Interview with Ryan Fan
As a publication on Medium, we have grown to over 90 writers in 6 short months. We are excited to see what God is doing to get His Word out there.
Through this interview series, we want to share with you a little snapshot into the lives of our writers.
Ryan Fan lives in Baltimore, Maryland and joined Koinonia in June 2019. You’re invited to join us in learning a little bit about Ryan and what makes him tick.
When did you join Medium? What influenced your decision to join?
March. I did something similar for a college publication.
When did you join Koinonia? What attracted you to this publication?
It was a publication that supported the intersection between faith and writing.
How long have you been writing and how did you come to it?
Who are some of the people who most influenced your decision to write?
Friends, editors, and people who inspire me on a daily basis.
Where do you get your ideas? What inspires you?
Everything. Mostly people in my life.
What do you like most / least about writing?
I love everything writing.
I hate the hustle of trying to market yourself on Medium.
How do you balance professional time with personal time?
All my professional time ties into the ideas I have in my personal time.
What Medium publications/writers are you currently following?
Following a lot of writers.
What are some of your favorite things? What makes you unique?
Running, interacting with people. I take daily interactions and conversations into a heavy amount of stock. I am doing an advanced certification process to become an English teacher at the moment.
How is your faith reflected in your writing?
I write about my faith a lot. But it is there in all of my writing, whether obvious or not.
What are some things you learned from your own writing? From others?
That writing is a great way to share what’s on your mind, in ways that aren’t available through speaking. It is one of the best ways to spread God’s word.
What is your ultimate writing goal?
I don’t know.
What advice do you have for a newbie on Medium?
Be patient. Don’t give up. Trust God. It’ll work out, as slowly as it seems to be.
Where else can we find you on the Internet? Do you have a website, blog, Pinterest board etc?
Facebook and twitter.
Thanks, Ryan Fan for sharing a little bit of yourself with us today!
Stay tuned as we will be continuing our writer spotlight series with interviews of each of our other writers on Koinonia.
