As a publication on Medium, we have grown to 140 writers in 10 months. We are excited to see what God is doing to get His Word out there.
Through this interview series, we want to share with you a little snapshot into the lives of our writers.
Graceygee lives in Berlin, Germany. You’re invited to join us in learning a little bit about Grace and what makes her tick.
When did you join Medium? What influenced your decision to join?
I’m a newbie, joining in October 2019. Two months before I had just moved to Berlin from Seville, Spain. The move was courageous as I felt I was following my heart and God’s plan. Trust and patience were key. God was urging me to share my feelings (anxiety was arising for the first time) through writing, and Medium found me. It seemed perfect — sharing my experience with other believers and non-believers because that is the point of our mission on Earth… spread peace and love!
When did you join Koinonia? What attracted you to this publication?
I joined Koinonia at the end of October as Janis Cox responded to my article about my move, being broke and homeless with loving words. I felt her compassion and found Koinonia (it was the first publication I wrote for!). What attracted me instantly was that Christians came together for self-help. It seemed fitting for me.
How long have you been writing and how did you come to it?
I have been writing for as long as I can remember. As a kid, my favourite Christmas presents were journals. I journaled every day because it made me feel better. I then studied Journalism and Spanish, and here I am! A globally-minded, God-loving graduate here to spread peace through the power of words.
Who are some of the people who most influenced your decision to write?
J.D. Salinger after reading The Catcher in the Rye because I loved/hated how superficiality in society has always been a recurring thing in our world.
Where do you get your ideas? What inspires you?
The Bible, life, people, walking down the street… When I read my Bible every morning, I feel inspired. Inspired to be a better person, a better writer, a better child of God. His Love inspires me daily to keep writing because my mission is simply to bring brightness and mindful magic to people. We are here to help each other, so here I am!
What do you like most / least about writing?
I like the fact that I can delve deep into my emotions with writing. What I like least about writing is that it can cut you off from the outer world when you are so taken away with it.
How do you balance professional time with personal time?
It is hard, but determination in your passion will make your personal time come to light more naturally. Balance is key.
What Medium publications/writers are you currently following?
What are some of your favorite things? What makes you unique?
I am open-minded and always willing to listen — that is what makes me unique. We should all be more ready to listen to people in my personal opinion. My favourite things are reading, writing, praying, meditating, teaching, talking…!
How is your faith reflected in your writing?
My faith is reflected through showing people they can do anything. God has all blessed us with a gift and I believe my gift is to show people “it is ok.”
What are some things you learned from your own writing? From others?
I have learnt that writing from experience is the best thing you can do. Sharing with others what you have learnt, so that they know every experience matters. Furthermore, God is with you in every experience (even if it doesn’t feel like it at times), they can be tests or lessons. Take what you can from it and grow — same goes for writing.
What is your ultimate writing goal?
My ultimate writing goal is to touch people. If I have touched one person, then my day is made.
What advice do you have for a newbie on Medium?
Keep going. I consider myself a newbie too, and I am learning the more you write the more confidence and character you develop through your writing skills.
Where else can we find you on the Internet? Do you have a website, blog, Pinterest board etc?
I am currently making a website but my instagram is @blessedbeyou! Follow for inspiration and to put things into perspective — something we all need to be reminded these days is that “everything is ok” because God has got your back no matter where, who you are.
Thanks, Graceygee for sharing a little bit of yourself with us today!
Stay tuned as we will be continuing our writer spotlight series with interviews of each of our other writers on Koinonia.
We are grateful for the fantastic writers we have and invite you to follow each of them here:
