Is There Such A Thing as a Good Christian?

If there is, what does it mean to be one?

My daughter asked me an interesting question recently.

She asked, “Do you think you have to go through trials to become a good Christian?”

She went on to explain that the reason for her question was that many of the Christians that we admire overcame difficulties and showed great faith and trust in God as they went through their trials.

I asked her if that was how she defined a good Christian, namely someone who exhibits faith in Jesus Christ in good times and in turbulent times.

“I guess,” she said.

She was going through what many Christians do. We’re often wondering if we’re living up to the standard of a good Christian. We compare ourselves with others Christians that we admire.

Are we witnessing enough?
Are we giving enough of our time to charitable work?
Are we being good stewards of what we’ve been blessed with?
Are my thoughts and actions pleasing to my Saviour?

We drive ourselves batty with these contemplations, as if they are conditions for the Lord's approval.
