It Takes a Virus

A virus brought silence upon the earth

People running to and fro,

doing business on the go.

The noise is overwhelming;

nothing else is heard.

Then, along came the virus called

corona.

Slow down.

Shut down.

Lock down.

Quiet down.

Human silence gives to nature

a chance to let itself

be heard

in the song of birds,

the buzzing of bees,

the wind that whispers

through the leaves

of poplar trees

and whittles through a thousand needles

of trees in a forest of pine trees.

A squirrel’s scratching

on a tree trunk,

up to the highest branch;

dove’s wing’s soft flapping overhead.

A million sounds, only to be heard

when people quiet down,

stand still and listen.

And then, among the soft,

mingled sounds of nature, if you listen carefully,

comes to you the sweet voice

of the Ruach

to comfort you,

guide and reassure you

of the Father’s love.
