It’s Then That We Praise Thee

When times are rough, and days are long,
When comes the end of days gone wrong,
When cares are great and struggles endure,
It’s then that we praise Thee.

When the sun is high, and the day is clear,
When hearts are bright, all full of cheer,
When comes the end of a beautiful week,
It’s then that we praise Thee.

When sadness is drawn from so deep a well,
When the lonely ache of our heart swells,
When a light at the end we can all but see,
It’s then that we praise Thee.

When time flies and emotions soar,
When fast the pace of our feet on the floor,
When we cannot stop for much at all,
It’s then that we praise Thee.

When we know love, or when we know pain,
When our life waxes, or when it wanes,
When we find whatever may come,
It’s then that we praise Thee.

And when comes the end of life’s transient dream,
When we find the end of that twisting stream,
When we look back on the times we had,
I pray that all was praise for Thee.

A time for everything under the sun,
A time given by the Holy One,
For every time that comes to pass,
May we ever, always, lift praise to Thee.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, ESV)
